Spinning

I was just standing in my kitchen spinning on the spot and reading. I was making tea and reading while I waited for it to brew. I couldn't get comfortable standing up because my weight was constantly on one leg or the other. I'm not good at standing up straight. So I started shifting which changed to a spin that slow like dancing. Then I was turning on the tiled floor in my socked feet. And everything past my book blurred and it was a very singular sort of thing. I felt alone and sort of liberated which sounds weird, I know. But I was reading about these characters I cared about while I spun around and my own world seemed much less substantial than the one about which I was reading. And I realized maybe I should start reading like this more often because it does seem to add something to the experience.
And then the ding went off to tell me that my tea was done and the feeling passed.

I Have A Muse

I was on such a poetry-writing roll last night. I wrote 5 and all that pretty happy with. And then 1 that my friend, Nate, told me to write as a practice. It's kind of a long story and one you wouldn't care about if I told you.
So yeah I was quite happy with my output last night. I suppose I have a muse. I may post what I wrote on here later today. I don't know why I just wrote maybe, I almost definitely will.
I know you guys are all so excited.
Sarah is back. She'll hopefully be staying for the rest of the summer as long as she gets a job. It's so much fun living with her like having the sister that I never had and actually like.
Sorry for the short post. I'll post some poetry later and maybe talk about this guy :)
yours,
Alyssa

Narcissa's Hair

So, for the longest time, I've wondered why Narcissa's hair is both black and blonde in the Harry Potter movies (I'm not sure if it was this way, as well, in the books or not). Well, I think I've figured it out. And, if it describes this in the book and I just look like an idiot right now, just ignore me thanks.
So, Narcissa is Bellatrix's sister which would make her a Black (hence the black hair) but she's married into the Malfoy family, known for their white-blond hair and so she takes on their hair color.
I kind of see this as her saying that she belongs as much in that family as her own. I believe that she was rather forced into marrying Lucius and that is one way of her saying that she belongs there. That she wants to be there.
Just my opinion, of course, and by no means correct.
What do you think?

Another post...

Lately, I've been thinking that it might be fun to do a Vlogbrothers sort of project. Would anyone like to do it with me? It could be a fun way to get know someone...
Whatcha think?

I don't even know why I'm posting this because no one reads my blog anyway, but whatever.

Do judge a book by its cover?

I know we're always told that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover (literally and metaphorically) but, as for the literal sense, why do books have covers?
A cover is meant to display what the book is about in some way. It's meant to catch your attention and shout, "Hey you! Buy me! Read me!"
So if we're meant to ignore a cover why have one?
Do you think it's possible to completely ignore a book cover? Or not judge anything? Or do you think it's human nature to make pre-judgements?
Just wondering what you thought. Let me know.

Wish me luck

I'm going to try to read all of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close before the movie comes out. Well before I see the movie which won't be on opening day but will, most likely, be somewhere around there.
So here I go...

Haven't blogged in a while

I know you're dying to hear about my fabulous life. Hah! You've certainly come to the wrong place. But I can tell you about my love affair with old people.
Okay, that sounded really weird; I'm sorry. I just meant to say that I think old people are so adorable. Especially old couples. They just make me wanna squeal and say "nyawwww"!
Since I don't really have anything new going on I guess I'll just tell you some random stuff.
Let's see, well I photographed a wedding a few weeks ago so I'm currently editing the pictures from that.
It was a nice wedding, the church had all these pretty stained glass windows. And the sun was perfectly positioned so that the room was just flooded with multi-colored light.
My parents, my grandma and I went to a Thanksgiving dinner and a play. The dinner was really good (in case you were curious, I had ham because I hate turkey), though kind of unorganized (disorganized?)
I think that's about it really. Christmas is getting so close. We were supposed to be going to get a Christmas tree today but that plan sort of...fell apart.
I watched Super 8 earlier. It was pretty good. I started it once a few days ago and couldn't really get into it. So anyway, I watched it again today and I quite like it. Maybe I was just sleepy the first time. Whatever.
And I'm currently watching Water for Elephants. Not bad so far.
I'm thinking about trying to post on a weekly basis.
I don't know I'll get back to you on that.

Always,
Alyssa

Wordcounting Sucks

Welcome to the first weekend of NaNoWriMo. I'm rather behind on word count by quite a bit so my goal for today is to log 5000 words. I'm a little apprehensive. But I will plug along!
How is everyone else doing on their word count?
As for non-NaNo things...well, I guess I don't really have any on second thought. There's a write-in at a library not far from where I live tomorrow so I'll be going to that (as long as I can get a ride, that is). And I'd like to get another 5000 words while I'm there. That'll put me ahead of schedule a bit.
I've been feeling sick lately. Ughh blergghhh! I don't know why, it happens to me often enough that I don't really question it anymore.
I'm feeling kind of stuck in my writing right now so, as you can see, I'm procrastinating. Which, I really shouldn't be, because this is something I actually don't want to procrastinate on.
Ugh! Okay I'll go write some more now!

Happy November...

Always,
Alyssa

A random question for no one

You know those motion detector soap pumps that you can buy? What's the point of those? You touch the soap pump before washing your hands. So what does it matter what you touch beforehand if you're going to be washing your hands?
Just something I was wondering...
