A Poem

You blink your eyes open
As sunlight pierces you
And see wisps of black
Heavy strokes on your pale
Perfect
Skin
Graceful inky swoops decorate you and,
Grasping in smoky memories,
You can just remember him—
Lamplight sparking off his hair
His fingers warm
As they brush your body
Softly
Deftly
And the cool sensation
As he writes of you
Worships you
Creates you
And you read—
"Perfect for writing stories"
On your fingers.
One shoulder blade holds
"A world made of books,
Sadness and
Shitty movies"
And a shoulder blade holds
"A world made of books
And snark
And decent literature"
You wonder what he'd write on your tongue
You think of what you'd write on him
You think he'll be the death of you

A Poem I Wrote Today

I thought I loved you
But I loved you
As the winter loves
Chokingly
Coldly
Fatally
My bones freezing over
Until spring came
With new flowers
And warmth
And light
That lit the shadows
Between each rib
And vertebrae
Causing all dark reminders of you
To flee

There's a few different sort of word variations for this one but this is how I first wrote it so there you go. I like it, if I'm honest. And also, I've been watching Bones a lot lately so the mention of bones and ribs and vertebrae may have something to do with that...

Another poem

There's thunder and lightning
And we're stuck inside
But it's okay
Because the sun shines
Harshly on our flaws
And I adore the rain
I've never loved you more
So let's be in love today
We'll go out and dance in the storm
And marvel at the heavens
And when the rain stops
And the sun comes to greet us
We'll say goodbye
And dash inside
Because we don't need it

I'm really quite proud of this one. This was another challenge - include rain. Nate said it was perfect. Which, of course, it isn't but still...it made me happy. Plus, I'm just really happy with it. I'm happy with how it turned out. It took me quite a while to write it, much longer than my poems usually take. And when I was finally done I felt like I'd written what I'd been trying to write for hours.

I've got a poem for you

Summer slips away
And the days slip into longer nights
As we slip into something colder
And trees shiver
And drop their leaves
Green becoming red, gold, brown
As they make the journey down
Left there to form a carpet
Of beautiful death
Naked trees are clawed hands
Trembling and arthritic
In bitter winds
That soon bring snow
That white downy blanket
Sent to warm the world
As we warm each other
In sweaters, sitting by fireplaces
And soon spring shall come again
Bringing flowers and new life with it

I quite like most of this one except for the last few lines. I'm not very good at ending poems. I often feel like most things I come up with (this one included) are kind of corny and cliche. But oh well, I shall work on it.
I wrote this one as part of a challenge between me and my friend, Nate. The challenge was just to write a poem about the seasons changing.
So there you go, and I have one more to show you.

An Untitled Poem

I didn't know it'd be like this
If I'd known
Perhaps I wouldn't have wished for it
Because I did, you know
Wish for you
On every dandelion
And eyelash
And magic time
And shooting star
Though I didn't know it was you
That I was wishing for
I wonder,
If I'd known how this would feel -
How it would hurt
And how it would heal -
Would I still want it?
Want you?
Would it make sense
In my over-logical head
Would the pros outweigh the cons?
Should I have protected myself instead?
Should I have stood strong
Instead of falling heals over head
For you?

Nate challenged me to write a poem in 30 seconds using the word "obsidian" so here's that

An obsidian sky
Reflected in the pond at our feet
Lapping at the shore
As we stare at the stars
And wish for things
We'll never have
But we wish for it anyway
Because we can
And wishing sets us free

Rain splashes the dirt beneath our feet
Making a soft carpet of mud
Soothing my bare feet
Splattering my white dress
As we spin, madly dancing and laughing
Hair is plastered to my face
Water drips from your eyelashes
I see my reflection in your eyes
We're so close
You tell me I'm beautiful
I laugh as the clouds open up
And we dance as the gods cry above us

I don't know what love is
Or if you wonder about it
As much as I do
I don't know if I am in love
I don't know if it's a good idea
I don't know if it ever makes sense
But I know how I feel
I know that I smile when I see you smile
And laugh at the joy in your laugh
I know that I hate for you to be sad
And I know sheer joy in making you smile
I know I want to touch you
Kiss you, hug you
I want to be around you
As much as possible
Talk to you, argue
All the time
Live a life with you
I want to know that you want the same
I want to know that you want me

I'm just posting these in the order I wrote them

Stars and suns and moons
And other worlds
Circling in an age old dance
We revolve around each other
Natural satellites
Smiling as we come close
Reaching out, grasping,
Laughing
As we pass in the night
Because we know
We'll soon come around
To each other again

This one is my favorite of those I wrote that night (even if it is a little inaccurate)

Your voice
So sweet
Apollo is jealous
You make his lyre
Sound common
And he cries
Pulling his chariot
'Cross the skies
And the sun falls in shards
Of starlight
But their flame
Doesn't frighten me
For I'm already set ablaze
By you
And it is
A most enjoyable
Burn

Finally posting that poetry I said I was gonna do

Your eyes are stars that lead me home
To your arms, where I belong
I follow the music of your voice
Your perfect boyish laugh
Pulling all the lights from the sky
I taste their sweetness
On your tongue
As they twirl around us
In a wild faery dance
And I no longer know where,
Or when, I am
But next to you
And I could burn or drown
Or never eat again
For, right now,
This moment
I am immortal

I Have A Muse

I was on such a poetry-writing roll last night. I wrote 5 and all that pretty happy with. And then 1 that my friend, Nate, told me to write as a practice. It's kind of a long story and one you wouldn't care about if I told you.
So yeah I was quite happy with my output last night. I suppose I have a muse. I may post what I wrote on here later today. I don't know why I just wrote maybe, I almost definitely will.
I know you guys are all so excited.
Sarah is back. She'll hopefully be staying for the rest of the summer as long as she gets a job. It's so much fun living with her like having the sister that I never had and actually like.
Sorry for the short post. I'll post some poetry later and maybe talk about this guy :)
yours,
Alyssa
